PRINCETON, NJ - The George Washington University women's water polo team saw its 2006 season come to a close on Saturday,
April 22, as it dropped both of its matches at the CWPA Southern Championship at Princeton's DeNunzio Pool. The Colonials
fell to top-seeded Princeton, 12-6, in their first game, followed by a 10-3 defeat in their second game against second-seeded
Bucknell. October 7th
Welcome to a whole new team. While we did lose three unreplaceable seniors, we got a lot of wonderful freshman. We are
now really getting into training and drills and we even had or first scrimage. More amazingly, we had enough to do a full
team scrimage!!! Our team is looking fast, strong, and very promising. We will continue to train for a few more
months and then when we get back from break and we will start are hell weeks and then the games begin.... Poor teams, the
have no idea how hard we are about to hit them!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Make sure u check out the new and updated bios to take a look
at the new talent!
April 23-25
LEWISBURG, PA - The George Washington women's water polo team posted a 1-3 record Friday-Sunday at the Eastern Championships
hosted by Bucknell University in Lewisburg, PA. After GW defeated Gannon, 8-4, in a first-round game on Friday, the Colonials
dropped a pair of contests Saturday, first to 10th-ranked Indiana, 11-6, and then to Harvard, 5-4. GW closed out the weekend
with a narrow 5-4 loss to host Bucknell on Sunday.
The Colonials had five players named to the All-South Regional team. Named to the All-South First Team were seniors Kira
Canon (Easthampton, MA/Williston Northampton), Vanessa Fravel (Coral Gables, FL/Gulliver Prep) and sophomore goalie Amy Heinemann
(N. Miami Beach, FL/Krop).
Senior Elisabeth Schweitzer (Winter Park, FL/Hawaii) and junior Kendra Shanley (Huntington Beach, CA/Marina) were both
named to the All-South Second Team.

Southern Championships at Villanova University in Pennsylvania- All right, folks--Southerns. Let me start by saying
that we played great team water polo in all three games. We are definitely peaking at the right time in the season,
and we left no doubt in the minds of any players, coaches, or fans present that GW is a team to be watched and respected.
We played Bucknell in the opening game and dominated from the very beginning. We were up 7-4 with only a few minutes
left in the 4th quarter. Then we had a small, uh, defensive lapse and they made a last ditch effort to catch us but
fell short, final score 7-6. We beat Villanova in the second game, 11-6. Our offense really came together and
we handily shattered any whims Villanova might have had about upsetting us. Sorry Cats, not this time. (We went
back to the hotel and watched the Lakers win game 1 and Chris Rock on Comedy Central talking about the woes of marriage).
Finally, we played Princeton. The tigers that were oh-so-cocky about beating us last time. This was the best game we've
played all season. Our defense was outstanding and we limited Princeton, THE counter attack team, to only 2 counter
goals the whole game. We had a lot of 6-on-5 defensive stops, including 2 field blocks by Jenna and Kira. Morgan
came in as our secret offensive weapon, scoring two quick goals in a row and hustling back on defense like nobody's business.
Vanessa had some great goals, the highlight being a high corner outside shot near the end of the game. Everyone
fought hard defensively, and we kept our offense matching them goal for goal the whole way through. We came up short,
with the 7-6 score lasting through the remaining 3 minutes of the last quarter. We had something to prove though,
and I don't think Princeton wants to face us again any time soon. Cheers, girls, great job at Nova. Looking forward
to Easterns and continuing the amazing team play!
April 3,4,5
The weekend got off to a great start with a well earned 7-6 overtime win over Harvard University with the winning
goal scored by Vanessa in the second overtime period with 3 seconds left, she was especially happy with that win since
it was the first time GW has defeated Harvard University since she first started playing here at GW 4 years ago. Following
the great win over Harvard we lost to Hartwick and then a loss to Princeton which we'd like to forget about as soon as possible.
March 27-28
Princeton, NJ More league play. Once again we defeated the Bucknell Bisons 7-4, and the Villanova Wildcats 8-4.
Princeton came back from a 5-1 trail to defeat us for the third time this season but we definetly gave them a run for their
money. The Tigers won 7-6 by holding us to one goal in the second half.
March 24
Thanks to everyone who came out to support us in our last home game of the season. Kira, V-ness, and Lissy all got
flowers and a special presentation because it is there last home game EVER with GW. We defeatead the University of Maryland
16-4, defeating them for the second time this season.
March 12-13
Our first weekend of our Spring Break we were up in Barkeyville, PA in a Comfort Inn in the snow. We won all four games
Gannon 6-3, Slippery Rock 17-4, Penn State-Behrend 18-2 (and in that game our goalie Amy got to play field and she scored
her first goal of the season) and Washington & Jefferson 16-1. Despite the lameness of being in Pennsylvania for Spring
Break we had a lot of fun reciting lines from Dane Cook and eating at Eat'n'Park.
March 5-6
Home games at the Smith Center vs. Villanova, Bucknell and Princeton. Friday we defeated Villanova 10-7, despite our slow
start in the game and keeping the score a lot closer than it should have been. Saturday afternoon Princeton beat us for the
second time this season but this time we kept up the intensity the whole game and only lost by four (9-5) this time instead
of ten like last time. The Bucknell game that evening was a lot of fun. Despite the bad chlorine we defeated the Bisons 6-2.
March 3
The team travelled to College Park, Maryland to defeat the Terps in their first game as a varsity program. The 8-1 score
seems impressive but really we should have won by a lot more and that realization helped us that weekend to be extra aggressive
against tough opponents, Princeton and Bucknell.
February 28-29
Tournament up at Bucknell. We went 3 and 2 over the weekend. Kira didn't get to play in this tournament because of her
broken finger. The tournament started off a little rough with a loss to Harvard by only one goal. We crushed Slippery Rock
17-6 and Salem 12-1. Indiana was a tough game and we lost 11-5 but our game against Michigan State was a good ending to the
weekend with a 6-5 win in OT. Vanessa scored 4 goals, the majority of them were 4-meters that she drew or helped draw. Her
favorite 4-meter was forcing the MSU goalie to put the ball under water, something she hasn't done since her senior year in
high school. Inkster scored the game winning goal in the second OT period.
February 14-15
At the tournament this past weekend, we played Michigan, Wagner, Brown, and Princeton. Quite the line up for our first
tournament of the season and our first game. We lost to Michigan 17-4, we beat Wagner 10-7, we lost to Brown 8-3 and we lost
to Princeton 13-3. Practice will be more grueling as we build our stamina and correct the mistakes we made this past tournament.
I will be building this site into all it's glory over the next couple of weeks. If you have anything you would like to see
go up, or have any great pics, or funny pics, of any of our girls, please send them to me at mhooker@gwu.edu
